More Services > Spanish Licences
If you do not live in the Canary Islands you can skipper a commercially registered yacht or RIB that is chartered to you. If you live on the islands and you wish to sail a commercial vessel then you are required to bear in mind that Spanish maritime laws have modified recently and the Spanish government require that you have to apply for Spanish licence “Patron Portuario”. These courses are all in Spanish, but talks are under way with government officials to consider English spoken classes so others can apply for this Spanish license.
The following steps have to taken to obtain the Patron Portuario licence are:
- Apply for the “Formacion Basica Course”. There is a possibility of assisting a pre paid course in Santa Cruz which involves a cost of 650,00€ and has an endurance of approximately 3 weeks. There is also the possibility of going to the official school but is very complicated to assist due to the fact of demand and the course cost is only 18,00€ fee.
- The “Patron Portuario” course is the following step to take and has an endurance of approximately 3 months. There is only one way of applying to this course and that is through the official school and yet again access to this course is not an easy quest due also to high demands. We highly recommend you put yourselves in professional hands and let them apply for you using other procedures which will enable you to attend this course.
