Jim hails from a naval family, sailing both as a child, and throughout his career in the Royal Navy where he spent 19 years as an Engineer Officer. Jim has sailed both dinghies and yachts from 24 to 55 feet in the capacity of crew, mate and skipper: and has co-owned his own Westerly Centaur Ketch for a number of years.. He achieved RYA/MCA Coastal Skipper in 1998 (now called Yachtmaster Coastal).
Leaving the Royal Navy in 2009, Jim has relocated to the Canary Islands with his partner and, with itchy-feet, soon found himself back on the water. He came to Club Sail to take his RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore qualification, and has since completed all necessary sea-safety training and instructors’ assessment. He joins Club Sail as one of our Cruising Instructors, teaching to Competent Crew, Day Skipper and Day Skipper Plus - and brings with him a wealth of sailing and maritime experience. |
